Making Dog Food In Instant Pot
Making Dog Food In Instant Pot – I’m a lucky girl. My mom bought me an InstantPot for my birthday, and I love it. One thing I wanted to do was make healthy dog food. I looked everywhere for a healthy InstantPot dog food, but couldn’t find anything. There is another recipe for dog food on the InstantPot site, but it’s not very healthy. At the same time I was doing all this research, my friend Jodi from Moyo Sembwa sent me a book of animal recipes made by a whole vet. The book explains the best ingredients, the right balance of meat and carbohydrates, and everything you need to know about pet food.
Knowing that if I was going to cook I would need a simple recipe, I took all the knowledge I had learned and came up with this recipe. I don’t like to cook, and even cook for us, but this is so easy.

Vegetables. I peeled and cut a sweet potato about 6 inches long. I ended up with 2 cups. The two carrots that were 7 inches long when cut gave me 1 1/2 cups. Then I chopped the spinach until it filled the measuring cup. You can also use peas.

You added a cup of brown rice. Brown rice is important because it still has all the good fiber that white rice lacks. And dogs need fiber to stay healthy.
Take two fresh chicken thighs and place them on top. I left the skin on while cooking to add more fat and moisture.
The pet cookbook said that dogs need calcium. This can also be given if the eggshells are soft. My Mr. Grinding my own eggshells in the coffee grinder seemed easy, and cheap. Please note… I never grind coffee in my coffee grinder, only flax seeds. Caffeine is not good for dogs, so make sure your grind is clean rather than any coffee shop.

Press the manual button on your InstantPot and set it to 23 minutes. When finished, turn off and release.
I removed the skin from the chicken, and the chicken from the bones. I have cut all this nicely with my fingers. Roxy tends to be a gulper, so I made sure everything was well mixed, and small. When the mixture was warm, I added the coconut oil.
The calorie count for this recipe is 1271, which does not include coconut oil. 1 TBLS of coconut oil adds 117 calories.

Recipe makes 4 1/2 servings. I had to break down how much each dog would get based on their caloric needs. One cup of food is 282 calories. But I added coconut oil bringing the calorie count to 308. Roxy gets 1/2 plus 1/8 cup a day, and Torrey gets 1 3/4 cups. I divided the leftovers between portions. This food group will feed them for two days.
Pour all ingredients except the coconut oil into the InstantPot. Cook by hand for 23 minutes, turn off and let the natural release. Remove the chicken from the bone, cut it and mix all the ingredients well. Add coconut oil if desired while the mixture is heating.
That’s right, it’s that simple. Shall I cook for them every two days? Maybe it depends. When we are in one place for a while then yes. Of course, on travel days it is impossible for us to cook without taking care of the dog. Am I happy to give you healthy natural foods, bet! I’m saving money too.

This recipe can be doubled or tripled, but I don’t have room in my fridge for anything but human food.
And it goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway… if you give your dog new food, get it small. Mix the old part with the new to avoid stomach problems. And fear not, potatoes and carrots make good orange shit. It is very easy to find in the meadow.
