Here are the stove top instructions for making my Dog Food Recipe. I know that not everyone has an Instant Pot (although I highly recommend using it to make life easier ) so I decided to make some instructions that everyone can use.

Remove your pan from the heat and allow your dog’s food to cool before serving or storing. You can divide the meal into portions based on your needs – I usually divide it in half and freeze one portion. I use a measuring cup when serving food, so I don’t take the time to divide it into individual portions.
I like mixed vegetables from Walmart or Aldi that are beans or green beans, carrots, and corn. (Don’t use anything with onions!) The last mix I bought also had peanuts in it. You can also use a bag of just carrots mixed with a bag of chopped green beans. (You know your dog so eat what they like – this is a simple recipe that you can find in the store / what’s available!)

We like to use a variety of grapes – strawberries or blueberries are best. Do not use wine because it is very bad for dogs. You can add berries before cooking or after cooking, just be careful if you cook with blueberries, your dog’s food will turn purple

The easiest grains to use in your homemade dog food are oats and leftover cooked rice. (Brown or white both work – definitely don’t use fried rice and onions again!) If your dog is allergic to seeds, you can substitute diced sweet potatoes.
We like to add some leftovers from all sorts of things: cooked duck (we don’t like to use this as our main source of protein because it’s a bit fatty, ‘o, and heavy), roast beef, pot roast, roast chicken. .. even a pig. Here’s our personal experience: I give Melly 1 cup of frozen food twice a day (with a small spoonful of plain yogurt on top) and she weighs between 40 and 45 pounds. He is very happy! (With dry kibble, he eats 1 cup twice a day so you can start with the same amount and see if you need to increase or decrease after a few days.)
If Melly has had a very active day, running around like a border collie and chasing trees or guarding fences, I will give her a little extra at dinner. Our vet likes us to alternate meats, vegetables, and fruits – it gives him as much variety as a dog in the wild. .

If your dog has spent his whole life eating kibble, making this change can lead to diarrhea. For dogs that eat a lot of scraps, you can get away and replace about ¼ of their food with this food for 3-4 days, then switch to half and half for 3-4 days, then ¾ new food + ¼ old food. . for 3 – 4 days, then 100% fresh food!
If your dog is very sensitive, I would do one to two weeks of each step. Melly has no problem with this change because I keep adding strange new things to her homemade food, but if your dog has been eating the same kibble his whole life, he should because it goes slowly.
I serve Melly food hot or cold – she is not too picky. I usually top with 1/4 cup yogurt (no sweetener added) when serving. Yogurt is not necessary but provides antioxidants and aids in healthy digestion. I like to make plain Greek yogurt in my quick dish.

To add calcium to this meal, I will also add bone meal or broccoli as part of the vegetables. You can store it in the refrigerator and use it when needed. You can also add a can of sardines filled with water. Fair warning, broccoli and sardines make the dish smell… like a bite.
This recipe is very flexible. You can use ground beef, turkey, fresh fish, or chicken. You can also use shredded chicken breast. The only thing I don’t recommend is canned fish, because it can be too fatty and too much can cause pancreatitis.
