It’s Hudson’s birthday! Can you believe he is two years old? It seems like only yesterday that I was baking him his first homemade biscuits. To celebrate her second birthday, I made her a pumpkin dog cake with peanut butter frosting – two of her favorite flavors!
Easy Small Dog Cake Recipe
Hudson spent his birthday in the mountains of Colorado with his fellow fur friends. He even ate his birthday cake, which he loved! The recipe is incredibly easy.
Dog Birthday Cake
This recipe is very easy. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients – flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. In another bowl, combine wet ingredients – pumpkin, apples, peanut butter, eggs and honey. Mix the two until combined. Pour into cake pan and bake at 350F for 30 minutes!
I used these 6 inch cake pans so I could make a double layer cake. This is a mini dog cake – perfect for Hudson and some furry friends to share! You can always cut the crust in half and bake it in one pan for a single layer cake as well.
This is Hudson’s favorite frosting. He always licks the cake before he eats it! It’s just peanut butter, Greek yogurt, and honey (you can also use maple syrup). When choosing these ingredients, choose the products that have them

The ingredients for this recipe are important. Use whole ingredients without added sugar or artificial sweeteners. Always check the ingredients on the label. This cake is easy to make, but make sure to let it cool completely before serving! If the frosting is too thick, you can add a little water or milk to thin it out.
According to the American Kennel Club, peanut butter is full of natural protein and healthy fats. It also contains vitamin E, which is good for the immune system. However, peanut butter should be consumed in moderation as it is a high calorie food. Also, choose natural, unrefined peanut butter. Avoid artificial sweeteners, such as those found in low-fat and light peanut butter.
Yogurt contains probiotics, which help dogs’ digestion. It’s also a good source of calcium and can keep your dog fuller for longer, according to the American Kennel Club. Use plain whole, low-fat or non-fat yogurt, unsweetened.

According to the American Kennel Club, honey has antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties. It also reduces inflammation and treats allergies. Do not give raw honey to dogs or dogs with weakened immune systems. It’s just fine in the recipe. Hudson has been very itchy since moving from Connecticut to Colorado, so I’m hoping the honey will help her allergies!
Yes, substitute plain Greek yogurt or mashed banana instead. Other options include cashew butter and pumpkin seed butter. Consult your doctor for any concerns.

Our fur baby is turning 3 and that can only mean one thing. Birthday cake! This mini dog birthday cake is so easy to make and it’s worth watching your dog’s excitement as you make it. I have made this recipe every year for the past two years and Cooper always wags his tail with great enthusiasm. He buries his face in it and I can’t ignore him. He doesn’t get a lot of stuff, so when he gets a piece of it every year he really makes the most of it. I remember the first time I made it, I wasn’t sure what to expect or if Cooper would even like it. But when I looked down and saw my dog staring at me with rapt attention, all my worries went away. As I began to assemble the ingredients, Cooper sat next to me. He was just watching and wanted me to slip him some peanut butter. And his wish was fulfilled.
The first year I made his birthday cake, I followed a different recipe but found that Cooper would only eat the icing. And all I was thinking was, “Great, my dog is an icing eater. There’s no point in making a cake!” But I didn’t let that put me off, I was going to make my own cake and Cooper would love it, I was going to keep it simple but make sure it included his favorite ingredients, peanut butter, banana, and now I make this cake every year, the first year I had the cake, when it baked in the oven, it smelled like home made corn bread, when I took the cake out of the oven, it tasted so good. It smelled. Forgot for a moment that it was for Cooper. But that didn’t stop me from trying and it was good! There is no shame in trying dog home remedies. Who else loves their pet dog? Trying to treat? I can barely pick up the cake for a picture in front of her every year before I tear into it. I always remember his tail wagging like crazy when he puts the icing on the cake, licks and chomps, he gets so excited! The first year when he was tired, he actually crawled into his bed before taking the last piece of cake with him. I hope you try this recipe for your canine friend and I hope you enjoy the cake as much as our Cooper did. Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram or Facebook. I would love to see your creations!
