Did you know that all pork products labeled “ham” are treated with nitrate curing to give them their red color and texture? They are also all pre-cooked and usually labeled as “smoking”.
Technically you can serve them directly out of the package, but we will put ourselves on a Traeger electric smoker so we have two smoking rooms and add a beautiful honey glaze!
This is why it is called “Double Smoked” Ham or twice smoked ham, even if it is smoked on your Traeger for the second time the smoke smell is not over!
Smoked Ham On Traeger Pellet Grill
It will take about three hours to smoke at 240 degrees F on your smoker. This equates to 20 minutes per pound of pre-cooked ham. You will want the temperature to be under 140 degrees F when it is fully heated.
The ham is already smoked, you start heating the ham, add more smoke and a nice honey glaze to it!
If you are using bone-in ham you will need about 3/4 pound per person you plan to serve. I like to plan on 1 pound because the leftovers are amazing!

Double Smoked Ham With Glaze
Start with whether you plan to buy fresh or cured ham, smoke it and cook it first. Fresh hams are not like that. Most people like cured hams, so this is what you will often find in grocery stores, especially during the holidays. Once purchased, all you need to do is reheat and add a wonderful glaze!
I like to use bone-in hams because they have more flavor. You can use leftover bones in other dishes to add flavor, such as MySlow Cooker Crockpot Ham and Potatoes.
If you don’t like carving, spirally sliced hams work well! They also save time. The smoked pork is placed on the tongue and turned against a knife moving along it to cut it, to the bone. You will still have to cut along the bone to remove your slices, but the difficulty is already done and the presentation is beautiful. The slices fall off the bone.

When buying ham, make sure you read the label. Some hams are made from water or solutions, but this does not have any flavor. Look for one with no added water or juice. The label should read “ham” – it doesn’t

I like to start smoking the ham low and slow to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat. I smoke it first for 90 minutes to 2 hours and then turn the heat down a little and smoke until it reaches a temperature of 145 degrees.

I like to start with a temperature of 225 degrees for a few hours, which will allow the flavors to penetrate the meat. Then I turned the temperature up to 350 degrees until the ham reached a temperature of 145 degrees.
You can freeze leftovers (tightly closed) for 1-2 months for maximum freshness. This is only for the good, because frozen hams are still safe to eat forever.
You can smoke any kind of ham. You can smoke longer until it reaches a temperature of 165 degrees.
